Use a custom domain to personalize the community.
By default, every community created on the Tribe Platform is a subdomain of tribeplatform.com. If you have your own domain or subdomain already, moving your domain should be one of the first things you do when setting up your community.
There are two major steps to move the community to a domain or subdomain:
1. Configure your website's DNS settings with the correct credentials or properties from Tribe.
a. For Domain: An A Record and CNAME are required
b. For Subdomain: Only CNAME is required
❗Important Note: if the domain provider is with Cloudflare, please make sure that before a CNAME or an A Record is added, turn off the proxy by clicking on the orange-colored cloud sign (proxy). The cloud sign will appear grey to indicate that it's turned off. Then add the CNAME and A Record.
2. Send a domain transfer request to move the community by going to your Tribe's Administration > Domain.
Below are the detailed steps to move a community to a domain or subdomain.
Configure the DNS Settings
An example of a domain URL will look like this: blogha.com.
For domains, a CNAME and A Record are requirements to be applied to the DNS Settings with the hosting provider. Add the A Record and CNAME as explained below:
Tribe Credentials for an A Record:
Type: A Record
Value or Points to: 188.8.131.52
Tribe Credentials for CNAME:
Value or Points to: domains.tribeplatform.com (please do not replace domains.tribeplatform.com with anything else)
Below is an example of how the A Record and CNAME should be configured in your own DNS Settings:
Tip: If the A Record is not set, the website will not be accessible (blogha.com), and if the CNAME is missing it will not be accessible from (www.blogha.com).
❗Important Note: The image above is an example. DNS settings can vary from host to host.
An example of a subdomain URL will look like this: community.blogha.com.
For subdomains, only a CNAME is needed.
Tribe Credentials for CNAME:
Host/Name: community (in this example)
Below is an example of how CNAME should be configured in your own DNS Settings:
For the Host/Name, the credential that needs to be entered is the actual subdomain. In the example below, the subdomains are highlighted:
Request to move the community URL from Tribe's Administration
Log in to your Tribe community using your admin account > Click on your profile picture > Administration > Settings > Domain > Add New domain or subdomain > Click on Move Domain:
Note: Please do not include "https://" or '/'(towards the end) in the URL.
Understand the request result;
Error/ Unsuccessful Message:
Instruction is provided by the system to show the particular error. It indicates what specific step has been missed or the credentials/properties that are incorrect.
Tip: Hover the mouse to the exclamation point icon to understand what particular inconsistency is detected.
If the credentials for A Record and CNAME are correct, a success message will be received. The message states that the domain will be moved. Click Confirm to complete the domain or subdomain transfer.
❗Important Note: The domain transfer is real-time if everything is set correctly.
