For now, while we're working on Tribe 2.0, we've started discussing some of the key features of a perfect online community platform in the Utopia group9. This will help us better understand all the requirements before building the platform. At the end of the day, we want to put the best practices from all different tools and products to create the easiest to use and most customizable online community platform that can be used stand alone or get embedded into existing products.
Here is a teaser of what we're thinking at this time. Please note that everything you see is subject to change and the stage we're at is far away from these screenshots.
The Tribe Studio
Tribe Studio is where you can design the different pages and sections of your product. In the example above, we're illustrating a rough idea of Tribe Studio where the admin can click on different sections of their community and pick different look and feel for each component. For instance, in the example above user clicked on user profile banner and can pick a different variation from the right sidebar.
Now let's say you've picked all the components you like. What if you want to change the background, the font sizes, border color, border radius, shadows. You should be able to easily browse through your theme and change anything you like. There will be preset themes that you can pick from. These things should not be hard to do. It's exactly like Webflow, Wix, or SquareSpace but for building a fully working social product (Not just static web pages).
You should be able to list all your members and create complicated filters on top of it to create different segments. Something like Intercom admin panel, but for your community members. This way you'll be able to easily contact the right members at the right time.
The same filtering and segmenting should be available for all the content inside your community. For instance, you should be able to easily filter all the questions which does not have any answers and create "Unanswered Questions" segment. Select the most popular ones and create an email digest or newsletter out of it.
One of the most important parts of any online community is the analytics. We're thinking a lot around what are the most important signals and information a community manager needs to be aware of, and how we can help our amazing community managers by providing smart suggestions at the right time.
There is a lot to talk about, but these are some of the items that our Tribe is thinking about every single day. What do you think?
