The difference between the Translate app of free plan and Multilingual is:

  • Translate app: It will help you translate posts and comments or reply
  • Multilingual: It will help you change your community language. From this language to another language

Hi @Mike van der Valk29. Recently we added Multilingual App for our Enterprise and Premium clients that allows their members to change the interface language for their own view. Each user can change the language from here:

Account Settings> Account> Display Language> Update
Account Settings> Account> Display Language> Update

Now, based on the preferred language that this user has picked (e.g. Dutch Language), if the Translation App36 is enabled on your community, all the posts in a language different than Dutch, can be translated to the Dutch language. Therefore, the translation app converts all the post to the language defined as a preferred language for this user.

Now, if you are using SSO and you already have information about what the preferred language for your user is on your main website, you can use Tribe Webhooks to automatically change the interface language for that user inside the community accordingly. You can add a webhook for user.signup and then use our user update API (PUT /api/v1/users/{userId}) and set locale in the data.

You can change the language for the entire community from Admin Panel> Settings> Language. It changes the language for the entire community, all the buttons, notification messages, ...

However, still you can use another languages keyboard to post your contents in any language. Just like Fb or Instagram.

We have "Translation" app that helps you translate all the posts form any other languages to English, which can help you understand your user's posts from any language.

I would recommend to create different "Groups' for each language. For example, create a group for "German", where all users are posting contents in German. That can be the place for your German users.

However, we have the multilingual community available though the extra instances, which is an option for our Premium and Enterprise clients only. You can learn more about it here76
