Adding your custom domain
❗Important: this post is in The Knowledge Base (1.0) Space. For customers on Tribe 1.0. If you created a community after June 1, 2021, please visit our Knowledge Base Space.
To set up Tribe on your own subdomain or domain, follow the instructions below: to set the CNAME (for subdomains) and A Record (for domains).
We call a URL like (community.acmecorp.com) a subdomain.
For subdomains, you only need to add a CNAME.
For instance, if you want (community.acmecorp.com) to be your community homepage, go to (acmecorp.com) domain registrar's control panel, and search for DNS settings. Click on "add a CNAME record" and enter the following settings:
Here is a sample configuration:
After the CNAME record is added, please go to the Community Admin Panel, click on Domain on the left sidebar, and insert the subdomain in the text field (ex. community.acmecorp.com).
If you have done the CNAME settings correctly, you will receive a success message, saying that your domain will be moved within 48 hours.
If the CNAME settings are incorrect, you will receive an error message explaining the issue with the settings.
We call the URL like (acmecorp.com) a domain.
For domains, you need to add both CNAME and A record.
For instance, if you want (acmecorp.com) to be your community homepage, you need to:
Add A Record:
If the A Record is not set, the website won't be accessible from (acmecorp.com), and if the CNAME is missing it won't be accessible from (www.acmecorp.com).
Once the CNAME and A record both are added, please go to the Community Admin Panel, click on Domain on the left sidebar, and insert the domain in the text field. In this example, you need to add (acmecorp.com).
If you have done A record and the CNAME settings right, you will receive a success message, saying that your domain will be moved within 48 hours.
If it's incorrect, you will receive an error message explaining the issue with the A record or CNAME settings.
❗ Important Note️❗
If you are using Cloudflare domain provider, please make sure before you add CNAME or A record, you click on the orange-colored cloud sign (proxy) to make it grey-colored (turn off proxy). And then you can add the CNAME and A record.
