how come you can't feature only one person. When i tried to disable someone as a featured user, the featured users section dissaperared. Is it possible or is it just me?

You can feature/un-feature a member from his/her profile. Click on a members name>>Click on more (...) button>> press star. 

You need to have at least 5 featured users to have the "featured users" box in the home page.
